She strolled across the hall

Hunching over her stick

A chink of light illuminated 

her creased features

Opening the curtains

she stood there gazing

Sunshine splashed across the sky

Birds silhouetted the horizon

prancing gaily

Wallowing in nostalgia

she beamed reminiscing

The days of frolics and fun

trivial banters and basking in the sun

The enchanting smile of

the man she loved dearly  

Now, she stood there alone

brimming with emotions

as a tear rolled down her cheek

They swore they would never go asunder

but, he died in his slumber

She always remembered the smile

Wallowing in nostalgia

she beamed reminiscing 

The days of stolen glances 

and late night dances

The sun slipped below the west

Clouds ripened to a bruised purple

heavy with pain and festering wounds
